About Us

One Company. Many Roles.

We are a regional business that specialises in providing a hassle-free passenger transport service to the Alpe di Siusi. We maintain an efficient transport network and manage the available parking facilities. As operators of the Alpe di Siusi cable car and the Alpe di Siusi Express, we are playing a key role in revitalising the Schlern region and reducing traffic on the Alpe di Siusi. Through our other business areas and wide-ranging activities, we are committed to quality and responsibility as a local company.

Our History

Growing Over Time

“We grow through the challenges we take on.” This saying sums up our journey very aptly. Over the decades, we have grown by taking on new challenges, continued to develop, acquired new skills and expanded into new areas of business. As a local company, we have the opportunity to contribute to our local community with great commitment and responsibility. Customer focus and quality are particularly close to our hearts.

History of the Alpe di Siusi Cable Car

The challenge

The great popularity of the Alpe di Siusi has been a much-discussed topic in South Tyrol for many years. As visitor numbers increased, car traffic on the high plateau became an increasingly problematic issue. The dust, lack of car parks and enormous environmental impact caused by private transport were threatening local residents’ quality of life and damaging the Alpe di Siusi’s sensitive natural environment. Providing traffic-calmed access to Alpe di Siusi mountain pasture was therefore essential.

Founding and development

Our commitment to Alpe di Siusi dates back many years. Following the work of the working group established to realise the circulating ropeway project, Seis-Seiseralm Umlaufbahn AG, a public limited company, was founded in 1989. That same year, the Landscape Conservation Commission approved the construction of the lift facilities from Seis/Siusi to Compatsch/Compaccio. In 1992, the provincial government approved the landscape plan for the Alpe di Siusi. Nevertheless, much remained to be done before the circulating ropeway envisaged in the area plan could be realised.

Temporary regulations before construction

The regulations governing road traffic and car parks were tightened. As the Compatsch/Compaccio underground car park had not yet been completed, alternative parking facilities had to be provided. The removal of car parks on the high plateau was offset by an expansion of the bus service. In 1995, experts prepared an environmental impact report, which approved the construction of the planned facility. The provincial government granted a licence for the cable car in 1999.

Construction period

Construction work began in 2001. This presented several challenges. For instance, the special transport carrying the 170-tonne haul rope became stuck on the road between Ortisei and Passo Pinei, only reaching the construction site on the second attempt. However, this and other difficulties were successfully overcome. The circulating ropeway was finally ready for operation.

Transition to sustainable mobility

After lengthy debates, 2003 marked a decisive turning point. On 15 August, the circulating ropeway went into operation. Over 1,000 passengers used the new facility on the very first day. Just under two weeks later, the number of passengers had reached 10,000. To this day, over 1.5 million people are carried each year.
The opening was closely linked to the closure of the access road to private vehicles. This bold step was taken despite opposition from business circles. Since then, in addition to its transport function, the cable car system has also taken on tasks that contribute to implementing specific nature conservation measures in the region.

Additional value

Thanks to the fast and convenient connection to the Alpe di Siusi and the regulation of car traffic, use of private motorised transport has decreased. This has saved over 5.75 million car kilometres in total.* The focus in future will be on digital management of visitor flows and optimising local public transport to further reduce private car use.
